Swiss Design at SF Design week, San Francisco, US, 2020
From June 15–25, 2020, for the third year in a row, swissnex San Francisco partners with SF Design Week to bring Swiss Design to the Bay Area. This year’s theme Intentional Distortions presents a virtual edition featuring the online exhibition by AATB Handshake and a Studio Crawl with three Swiss design studios.
At the studio crawl you will meet and hear exclusive insight into the work of three young leading Swiss Design Studios – AATB, Douma/Guittet, and Panter&Tourron. These three ECAL educated studios invite us into their studios and homes in Marseille, Paris and Lausanne for a closer look at their practice.
Both AATB and Douma/Guittet participated in the Swiss Design Accelerator program in January 2020 implemented by Pro Helvetia, swissnex San Francisco and Design Preis Schweiz. This cultural program at the interface of art and technology was held in San Francisco and used swissnex SF’s long-established network to enable participants to access key players relevant to the development of their entrepreneurial goals.
In 2020/21 swissnex San Francisco invited AATB to develop workshops, virtual events and exhibitions for a longer term engagement and residency in the Bay Area.
The exhibition Handshake: An Interactive Robotic Installation, was initiated by swissnex Boston and AATB, in close collaboration with the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York, the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, and swissnex San Francisco. This project and its global reach were made possible by the generous support of the global swissnex network, Présence Suisse, and Pro Helvetia.
